Why Fall Can Be a Good Time for Core Aeration

Core aeration removes small plugs from the lawn surface. It is commonly considered when soil compaction, heavy use, or restricted movement of air and water through the upper soil may be affecting turf performance.

Not every thin or unhealthy lawn needs aeration. Shade, drainage, mowing practices, soil conditions, pests, disease, or other site factors may also contribute to turf problems.

For many cool-season lawns, fall can provide useful growing conditions because extreme summer heat is easing while the turf may still have time to recover before winter.
